First Days in Rome!

Ciao amici!
I arrived in Rome on Tuesday.   Our apartment is nice.  It is near the Campo de Fiori, which is a huge outside farmer’s market that goes up every morning.  We’ve already had our first gelato.  We got limone (lemon sorbet), crema de limone (lemon curd), stracciatella (vanilla with chocolate flakes), and bacio de principe (chocolate and hazelnut).  They were delicious!  I also just had my first carbonara here.  It is a kind of pasta made with spaghetti, egg, pepper, cheese, and pieces of pork.  It’s one of my favorite pastas.  That’s why my blog is called Carbonara Kid! (It’s also the official pasta of Rome).
We saw and did a lot of things today.  We went to the market to buy green beans and plums, we went to a cat sanctuary to see lots of cats, we walked around the city, we had pasta for lunch, and we might be having more gelato for dessert!
Well, gotta go eat my gelato!

Fun Italian word:  Andiamo!  (Let’s go!)

  3. Life is short! Eat gelato every day! Thanks for the great report, Violet. I’m going to make pasta carbonara when we get home! Lots of love coming your way from all the family gathered here in Knoxville for Nick’s wedding.

  4. Hi Violet. This is Julie, Mari's mom. We are so happy you are having this amazing adventure with your family. We loved going to Rome with Emma and Mari a few years ago. We went in the summer, and it was very hot. We cooled off by splashing a bit in a huge famous fountain--do you know which one? I will give you a clue--it starts with a "T." The girls also loved the water fountains. When you put your finger on the hole, the water pops up in a stream to land right in your mouth.
